TruckWeek starts next week

The trucking industry across Australia is revving up for the TruckWeek celebrations which will kick off on Sunday, August 19.

Safety accreditation program TruckSafe and industry association NatRoad will jointly conduct a local media launch of TruckWeek in the central western NSW city of Dubbo on Monday, August 20.

TruckSafe national manager Justin Fleming and NatRoad chief executive Chris Melham will both be present to showcase the trucking industry to local politicians.

Justin said TruckSafe was a huge supporter of TruckWeek.

“TruckWeek is a great opportunity for the trucking industry to open its doors to the local community. I’d like to encourage all TruckSafe operators to invite their local politicians, police, and public to come along to an event and see what the modern trucking industry looks like,” he said.

The event at Dubbo has been made possible by local TruckSafe operator Steve Fieldus from Transforce Bulk Haulage, Australian Trucking Association councillor Cliff Swane from the Inland Truck Centre and NatRoad representative John Morris. The public is welcome to attend.

Other events to be held across the country include a community BBQ and company show and shine organised by Hentschke Transport in Loxton (South Australia) which will be held on Saturday, August 25.

On the NSW north coast, Lindsay Transport in Coffs Harbour, along with suppliers Brown & Hurley, K&J Trucks Coffs Harbour and Southside Trucks, will hold a family open day and BBQ at the Coffs Harbour showgrounds on Saturday, September 1. There will be trucks on show, games and competitions, face painting, a jumping castle and career information available.

Online, the Deafness Forum of Australia will mark TruckWeek and Hearing Awareness Week by releasing fact sheets to help trucking businesses manage noise and help truck drivers reduce the chance that their work will affect their hearing. One in six Australians has some form of hearing impairment, and everyone who works around heavy machinery is at risk.
