‘Building our future trucking workforce’, one of the confirmed sessions, tackles the problems arising from the driver shortage and solutions to attract more people to the industry.
It will be presented by Bill Manton, National Training Manager for Simon National Carriers, alongside the ATA’s Marketing and Corporate Partnerships Director, Bianca D’Rosario.
They will launch the ATA’s new workforce initiative as a part of the conference session.
“The initiative has been created to help aspiring entrants understand the potential of a trucking career,” the ATA says.
“Join us as we also share the findings from our Multicultural Driver Roundtable and tools for recruiting more widely.”
‘Get the facts on owner-driver contract terminations’ will inform owner-drivers and gig workers on their ability to apply to the Fair Work Commission for protections from unfair contract termination.
This will include:
- the rules about who can apply for relief and when they need to apply
- what happens in cases of serious misconduct
- how to use the Road Transport Industry Termination Code
- how a road transport contract termination differs from an employment termination.
This session will be presented by Georgia Paterson, who is a senior associate at Bristow Legal with a specialisation in regulatory and commercial law.
Finally, the ATA also announced ‘Navigating your CoR obligations’, an explainer session on Chain of Responsibility for those seeking further information.
“Join our expert panel for an in-depth discussion on the most common challenges that businesses face when navigating CoR,” the ATA says.
“We’ll explore emerging topics such as fostering a just culture, incident reporting, and continuous improvement. You’ll be able to ask questions and gain valuable insights to help ensure you’re on the right road.”
Trucking Australia 2025 is just over a month away, running from the 28th to the 30th of April in Adelaide at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
