A new regional HQ and DC is to be built by TNT Express at Redbank, Ipswich, Queensland. According to TNT, the $85 million investment will create over 300 full-time jobs when up and running. Construction is set to begin this month with completion slated for June 2015.
Designed to handle 15,000 parcels per hour, five times the capacity of the current facility in Salisbury at 3,000 per hour, the 78,000 square metre site includes an initial 26,000 square metres of warehousing with plenty of potential for further growth. Increasing online retail means the pressure on facilities like the one planned look set to increase significantly for the foreseeable future.
“The new TNT Express Redbank logistics hub will be a major facility in this important and growing area of Queensland,” said Peter Gutsche, TNT Express Queensland Regional Director. “It will contain some of the most technologically advanced and innovative parcel sorting technology available to improve the operational efficiency and security of our customers’ shipments.
“The new depot is part of TNT Express’ broader investment in its operations around Australia, including the creation of new ‘super hubs’ in Sydney and Melbourne, also due for completion during 2015 and complementing those in other locations which have been upgraded in recent years.”
