Road Trains and Drones

New technology comes along every now and again, which makes what was impossible possible, this is certainly the case with the relationship between road trains and drones. In the past road train videos were a truck in the distance is heading towards the camera and then the noise and dust as the truck passes by.

Now road train videos can be much more evocative and make a large and heavy truck look relatively graceful as it passes through the countryside. Thanks here to Road Train Adventures for the video.

This video takes us on a typical trip into a mine site, with the added bonus of the three trailer pulling through a flooded road. Here the drone makes it possible to see exactly what is happening and how it is done.

One of there YouTubers who have taken truck videos to another level is the DroneWay, who began taking videos of his truck with a drone, but he has taken his art to another level, as we can see in this video. At first he was taking drone videos on his regular beat across the Nullarbor and now this has moved on to more general videos, with some trucking components thrown in, here is one which also includes a great shot of the legendary Nullarbor Hotel, and its whale.

The next video shows how to make a video depicting the life of a livestock road train operator in Western Queensland, Danny Morton. It’s a well produced mix of handheld, drone and standard video shots, which tells the story of life in this part of the world.

That includes footage of his young son, on a private road, driving a road train better than many drivers who currently hold an MC license.

The invention of the mobile phone camera and drones has enabled people involved in the trucking industry to show others just what life on the road consists of.
