A global heavy equipment asset management and disposition company has broadened its presence in Australia’s mining and construction sectors with the acquisition of Smith Broughton Auctioneers.
Ritchie Bros., part of RB Global, has signed an agreement to acquire Smith Broughton Auctioneers and its affiliated company, Allied Equipment Sales, pending satisfaction of closing conditions.
The acquisition will strengthen Ritchie Bros’ national presence and extend its global reach.
The two companies will expand the organisation’s national footprint, enhance its customer reach, and accelerate its goal of being the trusted partner for equipment owners across Australia.
“Smith Broughton is a respected leader with deep roots in Western Australia,” said Ritchie Bros’ International Sourcing Vice President, Finlay Massey.
“By bringing these businesses into the Ritchie Bros. network, we’re strengthening our national capabilities, connecting local expertise with our global marketplace, and delivering greater value and reach for Australian equipment owners.”
Smith Broughton Auctioneers will continue operating under its established brand in Midland, Western Australia.
“This partnership represents the best of both worlds — global scale combined with local service,” said Smith Broughton Auctioneers Managing Director, Darren Smith.
“For more than 40 years, our customers have trusted us to deliver reliable results with integrity.
“Joining Ritchie Bros. enables us to continue that legacy while opening the door to new markets and opportunities.”
Ritchie Bros’ General Manager, International, Ghislaine Duijmelings, said the combined companies will create a powerful platform for customers.
“From local businesses in Western Australia to multinational mining operators, sellers can now access the world’s largest marketplace for industrial assets — supported by local expertise and a shared commitment to excellence,” she said.
The integration strengthens Ritchie Bros’ presence in the region and complements its global expertise in the civil, mining, and transport sectors, while expanding reach across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
It also reflects Ritchie Bros’ long-term investment in Australia’s resource-rich states, aligning with the company’s growth strategy in mining, construction, and transport assets.
Together, the combined group conducts approximately 155 auctions annually across Australia, supported by a national team of more than 100 employees.
Ritchie Bros. offers customers end-to-end solutions for buying and selling used heavy equipment, trucks and other assets and operates in the sectors of construction, transportation, agriculture, energy, mining, and forestry.
