Australia Post has set a new benchmark in logistics performance during this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
It processed more than 5.8 million parcels in its busiest delivery day on record.
Parcel volumes surged 6.3 per cent year-on-year, underscoring the growing demands on Australia’s freight and delivery networks.
The surge was driven by an estimated $1.5 billion in online spending, with 3.1 million households shopping online, a 9.2 per cent increase compared to last year. While categories such as Athleisure (+42 per cent), Books and Stationery (+24.7 per cent), and Women’s Fashion (+18 per cent) led the retail charge.
Sales momentum began weeks before the official 28 November start date, as retailers launched early deals. This extended shopping window created sustained parcel growth, requiring Australia Post to deploy additional resources across its national network.
New South Wales accounted for one-third of total e-commerce parcel volumes, while Western Australia recorded the strongest growth (+10.8 per cent YoY), followed by Victoria (+6.3 per cent) and Queensland (+6 per cent).
To meet demand, Australia Post has accelerated investment in its delivery infrastructure. Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services, Gary Starr, said the organisation is prepared for another record-breaking Christmas season.
“We’ve been heavily investing in our network with next-generation Post Offices, a new national electric delivery vehicle fleet, increasing our workforce and implementing weekend deliveries and extended trading hours. We are ready to deliver the magic this Christmas,” said Starr.
These initiatives highlight Australia Post’s dual focus of scaling capacity while modernising operations with sustainability in mind. The rollout of electric delivery vehicles represents a significant step toward reducing emissions across the last-mile network.
Digital engagement also surged, with the AusPost app recording 14.8 million visits and 2.7 million customers (+28 per cent YoY). Parcel tracking remains the most accessed feature, reflecting consumer demand for visibility and reliability.
Parcel Locker usage continues to grow, offering secure, convenient collection points that ease pressure on traditional delivery channels.
