Australia’s transport ministers have agreed to appoint the long-standing chief executive of the Queensland Trucking Association (QTA), Peter Garske, to the board of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).
Peter said his appointment recognised the importance of the trucking industry and the freight task to the economic wellbeing of Queensland and Australia.
“I look forward to drawing on my experience over many years working with and for many great people in our industry, to bring an industry perspective to my responsibilities as an NHVR board member in the oversight of the regulator as it seeks to achieve productivity, efficiency and safety gains across state borders,” Garske said.
Peter was appointed chief executive of the QTA in 1995. He is a director of the Queensland Transport and Logistics Council, a member of the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Board, Chair of the Department of Transport and Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Safety Forum and a member of the Department’s Road Freight Industry Council among many government and industry committees and policy groups.
Other appointments to the NHVR board include the Hon Bruce Baird AO as chairman, OH&S consultant Robin Stewart-Crompton, NRMA board member and Australian rally champion Coral Taylor and the chief executive of Flinders Ports, Vince Tremaine.
