A team of technicians from Australia has landed second place in a global technical competition. The team made up of Australian Isuzu truck dealer technicians took out second place at the 2014 Isuzu World Technical Competition held in Tokyo, Japan.

The ‘I-1 Grand Prix’ is in its ninth year and consists of Isuzu truck technicians from around the world competing in a series of challenges. The tasks they are set test for measurement accuracy, vehicle inspection standards, fault identification, repair ability and theoretical understanding.

This year’s event was split into two emissions categories. Category A was fought out between countries with Euro 4 and above emissions levels, and Category B for those countries with emission levels below Euro 4.

Isuzu Australia’s contingent overcame teams from 11 Isuzu distributor nations in Category A, finishing second to the United Kingdom and ahead of the much fancied Japanese team who placed fourth on this occasion.

Coached by Charlie Gracewood from the WA, SA and NT Isuzu Australia Service Team, the Aussie team line-up included Brisbane Isuzu’s Jazzmer Ducao and Dubbo based Martin Lawson from Tracserv.

“These boys are some the best operators in the truck service industry and I know Charlie put them both through a fair bit of training in the lead up,” said David Smith, Isuzu’s National Training Manager. “Isuzu has enjoyed a lot of success over the past few years, winning the I-1 in 2011 and finishing second two years running now.

“The ‘I-1’ continues to set the bar in terms of mechanical skills challenges worldwide, so we couldn’t be happier with the result. I think it gives our customers excellent peace of mind knowing the level of skill our technicians possess, and that their purchase is being extremely well looked after when they come in for a service.”
