Newest Iteration of the XG

DAF has unveiled the newest iteration of the XG model in this new video.

The new DAF XG and XG+ come equipped with the powerful 15-litre PACCAR PX-15 engine, delivering 660hp. Created through an Australian-led project that also involved global PACCAR engineering teams and industry-leading supplier partners, the new models boast superior safety, luxury and aerodynamics to deliver the power and torque that Australian applications demand.

“Throughout the development of the XG, we were eager to extend the capability of this truck to suit the high productivity applications that make Australian transport so unique,” DAF director of product planning Ross Cureton says.

“Through PACCAR’s global powertrain partnerships, we identified the perfect combination to deliver a step forward in performance, fuel economy and durability, while preserving the outstanding comfort, safety and refinement of this next generation DAF.”

The two models are available to order now, with production happening at Kenworth DAF’s Bayswater plant from January 2025 onwards.

The DAF dealer network across Australia already has XG and XG+ demonstrators available for customers to experience the new trucks for themselves.

When it comes to cab design and technology, DAF says it has taken a pioneering step in being the first manufacturer to leverage updated European regulations on cab dimensions.

The new cab features a redesigned front grille for improved cooling and aerodynamics, 220-litre toolboxes on both sides and easy access with three evenly spaced steps.

The exterior design of the elongated cab design provides two main benefits to shine through in its aerodynamic efficiency and its curved windscreen.

High-quality materials and finishes throughout reflect a luxurious vehicle look, with a 12-inch central screen being partnered by a 10-inch display for DAF’s Infotainment System.

The Euro-6 new generation engine platform allows the PX-15 engine to operate at higher cylinder pressures, resulting in improved performance.

To harness the high torque output of the engine, the Australian models come equipped with the ZF TraXon 16-speed automated gearbox.

“It was critical for this project to be led by an Australian team that has decades of experience engineering products in our market. It’s about so much more than just the cab and engine – frame layout, fuel and AdBlue tanks, air filtration, suspension and axles to name a few,” chief engineer Brad May says.

“Putting all this together without diluting our design for the needs of other world markets is the secret to making the XG greater than the sum of its parts, and that’s something PACCAR Australia has been doing for more than 50 years.”

The new generation trucks also offer an extensive range of active and passive safety features, adding new features like a 270 degrees corner view camera to effectively reduce blind spots on the passenger side and front of the vehicle.

“A huge benefit of the extensive local XG validation program is that customers have had time to truly benchmark these trucks against their fleet – we’re beyond five million kilometres on local roads now,” DAF director of sales and marketing Michael Long says.

“Drivers appreciate the comfort and technology in the new cab, but they value the powertrain performance even more. Customers are reporting a significant fuel economy improvement while pushing these trucks into their most productive applications.”
