NatRoad praises ‘Operation Overland’

The National Road Transport Operators Association (NatRoad) has strongly commended the NSW Minister for Roads and Ports, Duncan Gay, and the NSW Police for rolling out ‘Operation Overland’ to crack down on blatant law breaking by truck operators and supply chain participants.

NatRoad, which incorporates the Australian Road Train Association (ARTA), represents 1100 road transport operators which collectively have more than 10,000 trucks operating on Australian roads on any given day.

NatRoad chief executive Christopher Melham welcomed ‘Operation Overland’ and Minister Gay’s commitment to weed out supply chain participants breaking the law.

“There is no place in the road transport sector for rogues blatantly breaking the law by speeding or tampering with speed limiters – these rogues are a threat to society and need to be weeded out by law enforcement officers,” Melham stated. “NatRoad acknowledges that there must be strong action taken against offenders and we welcome our inclusion on the Minister’s Leadership Forum so we can work with government and industry to design strategies to help stamp out this dangerous behaviour.

“I am also encouraged by the recent co-operation between cross jurisdictional law enforcement agencies and expect this to continue to ensure the smooth transition to the establishment of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator on January 1 next year.”
