2025 marks the 125th anniversary of the Mack Trucks brand, in what is a major milestone for the heavy vehicle manufacturer.
Now part of the Volvo Group, the American-born company was started in 1900 by two brothers in a Brooklyn workshop, and after hauling goods to some of America’s most important projects in its early years, it has since evolved to become a notorious global powerhouse with extensive international reach.
Mack trucks are now sold and serviced in over 45 countries across the globe – including Australia – but every heavy-duty truck in America is still assembled in the company’s Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO) facility in Pennsylvania, while medium-duty trucks are produced at the Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) facility in Virginia.
“For 125 years Mack Trucks has been more than just a manufacturer,” President of Mack Trucks Stephen Roy says.
“Our 125th anniversary isn’t just about celebrating our past – it’s about driving toward an even more innovative future. The same spirit that inspired Jack and Gus Mack to build their first vehicle continues to drive us forward as we pioneer electric and autonomous technologies for the next generation of transportation. Together, we’re moving and building a better world.
“Every Mack truck that rolls off the assembly line carries forward a legacy of grit, innovation, and that unmistakable bulldog tenacity that has defined our brand since 1900.”
As part of that “bulldog tenacity”, Mack has unveiled a special 125-year logo as part of the celebrations that strongly features the iconic bulldog pose.
The bulldog is part of the company’s legacy dating back to World War I, where the AC model was nicknamed a ‘bulldog’ by British soldiers impressed with its sturdiness and tenacity, before the first ever bulldog was carved on a bar of soap by Chief Engineer Alfred Fellows Masury during a hospital stay to pass the time.
Now, that symbol resides on every truck produced by the company.
