It’s that time of year again, at Gatton, on the Warrego Highway between Brisbane and Toowoomba, two convoys will converge on the town this weekend. The annual Lights on the Hill event sees a convoy of trucks from Archerfield, on the edge of Brisbane, and one from Toowoomba meet at the Gatton Showground.
The memorial convoy is held on the last Saturday of February every year. It is an opportunity for the trucking community to get together and remember those who have lost friends and family in the industry, but also as a social event to get together and have a good time.
Later in the year, on the second Saturday of October the Memorial Day sees truckies, families and friends assemble before the Lights on the Hill memorial, to honour the drivers whose names will be added to the wall this year and whose names already reside there. This service is open to anyone to attend and drivers are encouraged to bring along their trucks to join in the service.
