Hyzon CEO resigns from company

Hydrogen fuel system manufacturer Hyzon has been dealt another blow, with CEO Parker Meeks announcing his resignation as an officer and director of the company effective immediately.

Meeks had served as CEO and a director of the company since April 2023.

Hyzon is currently searching for added investment to prevent dissolution of the company, with an announcement being made in late December stating it had commenced a 60-day notice period that must be given prior to idling operations and laying off employees under the WARN Act.

“Mr Meeks’ resignation was not because of any disagreement with the company or on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies, or practices, including accounting principles and practices,” a statement from Hyzon reads.

Dr Christian Mohrdieck has been appointed as President and Acting CEO effective immediately. Mohrdieck has served as Hyzon’s Chief Technology Officer since January 1, 2024.

Mohrdieck spent over 20 years working within the Daimler AG family of companies, including almost a decade as CEO and Director of Fuel Cell of Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell GmbH.

Hyzon had scaled back its international operations prior to announcing its potential dissolution in late 2024.

It confirmed its exit from the Australian and European markets in July 2024, citing market challenges and waning government support.

It had only recently released an Australian-designed hydrogen fuel cell prime mover. The truck was unveiled at the Automotive Centre of Excellence at Melbourne’s Kangan Institute in March 2024.

Hyzon had also established Australia’s first purpose-built assembly plant in Melbourne’s south-east, which employed over 50 people at the time of its prime mover announcement.
