This week’s video shows off truck rental and leasing business TR Group’s new 50-tonne hydrogen prime mover to include in its rental fleet in New Zealand.
The DAF CF 530 model has been through a hydrogen fuel cell conversion by local experts GBV. It boasts two Toyota 85kW fuel cells (170kW total), a 124kWh battery system, and 52kg of onboard hydrogen storage, providing an estimated 450-500km of driving range.

Power is then delivered by a 350kW/2400Nm electric motor paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The fleet of 20 hydrogen fuel cell trucks has been made possible through a government-supported program alongside green hydrogen refuelling network Hiringa Energy. Hiringa has three hydrogen fuel stations currently in operation, while working to build another.
TR Group says that the government support has enabled them to offer their 20 trucks at competitive lease rates.
