Hino Motors is about to release the Hino Profia Z FCV, Japan’s first mass-produced fuel cell heavy duty truck.
Developed in partnership with Toyota, the truck is based on Hino’s flagship heavy duty model (700 Series in Australia) and hits the Japanese market on 24 October 2025.
The truck features a chassis optimised for payload while accommodating fuel cell components. Its powertrain uses two Toyota MIRAI fuel cell stacks, adapted for heavy-duty operations, and incorporates Hino’s electric vehicle driving technology.
Hydrogen refuelling is reported to take 15–30 minutes, and a fully loaded truck can cover around 650km.
Richard Emery, Hino Australia President and CEO, said the launch represents a major step toward carbon neutrality, highlighting fuel cell technology as ideal for long-distance, heavy-duty operations.
Hino Australia is evaluating similar low- and zero-emission solutions, including the 300 Series battery electric and 700 Series hybrid models, for future local deployment.
In other news, Hino Motors has partnered with a Japanese road construction company to begin testing of driverless autonomous vehicles.
