The Historical Commercial Vehicle Association will attempt to set a new Australian record for the largest number of Mack Trucks in one location on Saturday, 28 September.
The passionate group of trucking enthusiasts will try to muster more than 153 trucks at this year’s Vintage and Classic Truck, Tractor and Machinery Show in Gatton, Queensland.
Mack Trucks Vice President, Dean Bestwick, said the iconic brand was excited to have such a keen group of enthusiasts put on the show and feature Mack in its 50th anniversary year.
“The event is now in its 20th year and a fantastic opportunity for Mack Truck collectors to show off their prized vehicles and for locals to see Australia’s rich trucking history first-hand,” he said.
“Locals will be able to get up close to some of the nation’s best vintage trucks. The first Mack arrived on Australian soil in 1919 and the company has been operating here since 1963.
“Mack Trucks is the longest serving truck brand in Australia and had long been synonymous with durability and reliability.”
Vice President of the Historic Commercial Vehicle Association of Queensland and show organiser, Graham Kircher, said the event attracted hundreds of truck lovers each year.
“It will be a great weekend for passionate Mack drivers to reminisce about their time behind the wheel,” he said.
“Whether it was a truck that your father used to drive or the truck that you learnt to drive in, the show will certainly bring back many fond memories.”
Mack Trucks is known for producing commemorative trucks and in 1988 released 16 Bi-Centennial Super-Liners in Australia, two of which will be shown over the weekend.
Toowoomba local and Mack collector, Glen Beutel, is the proud owner of the 15th Bi-Centennial truck.
“Mack’s Bicentennial trucks have always captivated me, so when I finally had enough money to buy one I did,” he said.
“I’ve been fascinated with trucks since I was a young boy and have refurbished them for years – it’s a great hobby.”
A vintage Mack green 1964 B61, owned by Glen and Richard Graham, will also be on show.
The Vintage & Classic Truck, Tractor & Machinery Show will be held at the Gatton Showground on the corner of Woodlands Road and Golf Links Drive, Gatton.
