At the launch of the ‘Free Cuppa for the Driver’ there will be free food and drink for truckies at the Homestyle Diner & Takeaway Shell Roadhouse, Newell Highway, Gilgandra between 10:00am and 2:00pm, Wednesday March 5 2020.
The Road Safety Officer at Orange and Cabonne Councils, Andrea Hamilton-Vaughan’s homemade scones and strawberry jam was a hit last year with truck drivers and the Free Cuppa team are excited to do it again this year to spread the word about Free Cuppa.
The multi-award winning ‘Free Cuppa for the Driver’ scheme offers a free cuppa to drivers who have travelled more than 100 kilometres from the address on their driver’s licence is back in 2020 and, according to Andrea, every truckie deserves a Free cuppa for the driver too!
The driver fatigue campaign’s objective is to prevent fatigue related crashes and commences March 1 and runs to 31 May each year. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the campaign which has gone from strength to strength. The campaign reminds us driver fatigue is one of the three big killers on NSW roads and it is important to remind the public how susceptible we all are to fatigue behind the wheel of a vehicle.
“Driver fatigue creeps up on the driver attacking them mentally and physically. There is no alarm bells when fatigue overload hits, just silence”, said Andrea. “Over ninety businesses have signed up throughout NSW to offer visiting drivers a Free Cuppa for the driver and take a break and shake off driver fatigue. All you have to do is just ask!”
All participating businesses will display the Free Cuppa logo and truckies can access the mobile friendly Free Cuppa website to access information on the scheme, participating businesses details and competitions.
