UK fish and chip shop supplier, Henry Colbeck, is fast-tracking its transition to a Carrier Transicold exclusive fleet, with the latest addition of six Supra High Efficiency (HE) 8 units.
The Supra HE was selected by the Gateshead- headquartered supplier for its powerful refrigeration capacity and lower fuel consumption, which helps ensure maximum operational efficiency.
The new Supra HE 8 systems are fitted to 18-tonne MAN TGM trucks mounted with custom Gray & Adams bodies that feature separate access points for individual storage sections.
Joining the company’s 29-strong commercial fleet, this acquisition marks the latest step in Henry Colbeck’s plan to transition all temperature-controlled vehicles exclusively to Carrier Transicold technology.
“We’ve started moving towards Carrier Transicold because its products offer the performance, reliability and service support we need,” said Henry Colbeck’s Operations Director, Hugh O’Brien.
“The Supra series has been a great addition to our business over the years, helping us reduce fuel consumption while performing exceptionally well under pressure year-round. We’re confident that will continue as we introduce the new Supra HE technology.”
The Supra HE features a new semi-electric architecture that makes the unit quieter, lighter and more compact, helping maximise operational efficiency and uptime.
The simplified, streamlined design allows the units to be easily incorporated into a variety of vehicle body types, while maintaining cab tilting capability for easy maintenance and accessibility.
In addition, a 30 per cent reduction of brazed joints and 42 per cent less refrigerant charge compared to the legacy Supra minimises potential refrigerant leakage and reduces the system’s carbon impact.
“We’ve always worked closely with Henry Colbeck’s team to ensure we provide the right units to meet their precise needs,” said James Bell, Sales and Marketing Director at Carrier Transicold UK.
“Rolling out the new Supra HE 8 is the next step in our ongoing collaboration, and we look forward to supporting the company as it continues to transition to Carrier Transicold solutions.”
The new trucks are expected to cover up to 70,000 kilometres annually and will operate five days a week, each completing up to 15 deliveries per day.
Henry Colbeck, a fourth-generation family business founded in 1893, is the oldest fish and chip shop supplier in the United Kingdom. The company supplies chilled and frozen products to customers across northern England and Scotland.
In addition to its Gateshead headquarters, the business operates from a facility in Coatbridge, Scotland, enabling it to serve more than 2,000 customers.
