As with any truck launch, which the whole of the trucking industry is hanging out for, early peeps at what the truck looks like is always welcome, hence here are the first photos of the K220 interior, published on Facebook.

The site which published the shots did not give any acknowledgement, or any explanation, about who took the photos. The site is based in South America and headlines the truck as a US model, before correcting its mistake in the short article which goes with the photos.

Of course, the new model is going to attract criticism, Kenworth fans are often very traditionalist. The fact that the truck in the photo has a Roadranger fitted is going to be a relief for those diametrically opposed to the introduction of AMTs on the iconic brand.

The steering wheel looks familiar, it is shared with the T610 and T410 conventional models. The dashboard looks like has been completely redesigned, abandoning the classic traditional bezelled instrumentation. Clearly this is an evaluation model, and Kenworth already offer a range of interiors from traditional to much more modern, on other models.

The fact of the matter is, this is all supposition. The real deal will be unveiled to the Australian trucking public, who are waiting with bated breath for the first week of June, when the new K220 will be unveiled at a large event in Brisbane.

Until then we will have to make do with secretly taken photos appearing on a variety of sites. The Kenworth camp themselves remain tight as a drum, unwilling to share any details in advance of the big night of the unveiling.

What we do know is that one of the big ticket items will be fuel consumption. Fuel efficiency has become a major selling point in recent years with competitors from Europe and the US able come up with very frugal packages.

We know the next generation Cummins X15 is going to be fitted in this new K220 and that will go a long way to improving fuel use stats. Add in the Eaton Endurant XD AMT and the fully integrated driveline should be able to give Kenworth’s cabover, and conventional, rivals a run for their money.
