Extended Law Reform Consultation

extended law reform consultation

This week has seen the announcement that there will be an extended law reform consultation period for the trucking industry, as the closing date for submissions to the Heavy Vehicle National Law review consultation regulation impact statement (RIS) has been extended until November 20 2020

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator is encouraging the industry to avoid missing out on this chance to have its say on the proposed options around the shape of the future HVNL.

Those wishing to comment, during this extended law reform consultation, can use the short submission form to give feedback on topics of interest on the HVNL review site. Or provide a formal written submission on the National Transport Commission website.

The NTC is releasing a series of short explanations of key HVNL reform options and how they might affect the trucking industry. They complement the RIS and the HVNL 2.0 document.

These explanations give a quick insight into the reform options under consideration, and invite industry views. They will all be posted by the end of the week, on the HVNL review website.

The feedback will be considered when finalising the policy options to present to ministers for approval in the first half of 2021.

The consultation RIS is the key document the NTC is consulting on in this phase of the review. It includes over 40 reform options to improve the HVNL.

An overview is available, HVNL 2.0, it is less technical and aims to provide an example of what a future HVNL might look like.

There are also fact sheets on key topics.

State by state discussions can also be found on the NHVR website.
