Here we have a collection of videos which many people who work on the road would recognise as a a guide to everyday problems for truckies. This is another collection of videos for which we have to think Tez the Truckie who posts them up regularly on YouTube.
Problems like trying to get the truck out of a particular location and taking the risk of going off the hard standing to find how just how soft the ground is and that dawning of a realisation that you have gone too far and the truck is sinking.
The one which surprised me was the rear trailer of the B double hanging off the side of a narrow bridge. It’s difficult to work out exactly what’s been happening here, but the most likely reason would be that the trailer braking system is not set up right and when the prime mover and lead trailer started to pull up, the rear trailer kept on going.
There are countless videos available on the World Wide Web which show truckers having turned down wrong street, trying to turn around in a street where it will be impossible. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and take the risk of reversing out of there, no matter where you are. Of course, it works better if you can recruit a spotter to wave their arms around at the rear trailer, but if not, it’s just a matter of taking your time.
The semi trailer parked by the side of the highway, with the front end hanging out over the road is definitely a mystery. The answer was probably the B double lead trailer but it is very difficult to work out exactly what is happened there.
Grounding the belly boxes on a hump in the road or getting a B double out of shape in a tight manoeuvring situation is one of the basic rookie mistakes, which we probably learn purely from experience, to avoid repetition.
The refrigerated trailer in the US being pulled by a Tesla simply blows the mind. I wonder just how much pulling that trailer affected the possible range of a fully charged battery.
Dashcam videos taken by truck drivers showing cars overtaking them in ridiculous situations are too numerous on the internet to count, but they keep on happening and they will keep on happening.
Snagging a rear booster on a rock on a tipping site is another of those rookie mistakes which will result in crawling in the dirt under the truck for long periods in order to get back on the road, and then probably getting a substantial dressing down when it finally get the truck back to base.
There is no more to be said about the brainless behaviour of caravans around trucks. It’s infuriating for truck drivers but it is very unlikely to change any time soon.
