Volvo Trucks North America has released the latest version of the Cummins ISX12N “Near Zero” natural gas engine as an option in the VNL 300 day cab models used for pick up and delivery or regional-haul operations.
The inclusion of the Cummins ISX12N represents best-in-class natural gas engine technology and is an indication of the increasing attention of truck makers to providing cleaner and greener emissions levels of heavy truck operators.
As John Moore Volvo Trucks North America product marketing manager – powertrain confirmed, “The low carbon footprint, expanded delivery and distribution, abundant supply and stable pricing of natural gas offer substantial benefits to fleet operators looking to utilize the fuel as a clean, quiet and cost effective alternative to diesel without the need for a DPF or SCR system.”
With available engine ratings of 261 kW (350 hp) to 300 kW (400 hp) with 2000 Nm torque, the ISX12N natural gas-powered engine is approved for GCMs of up to 36,000 kg, making it well suited for heavy-duty regional-haul truck and prime mover applications, port drayage, vocational, refuse and conventional straight truck applications.
The natural gas power plant can be operated on compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, or renewable natural gas. The ISX12N engine is OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) compliant and U.S. EPA and CARB certified.
