Over the years, heavy duty engines have evolved and advanced significantly on all fronts.

Beyond the cabin comforts, heated seats, and steering wheels, these developments have also extended to aspects like the structure of the truck skeleton and the engine design. With that, manufacturers’ demand for top-quality components and equipment has also naturally increased.

Similarly, over the years, Fleetguard has created a reputation for itself for continuously pushing for product excellence, which can be seen through the evolution of all its products, such as the company’s PG Platinum™ coolant.

The PG Platinum coolant epitomises the approach Fleetguard adopts in developing products, one that places the customer first. It provides distinctive features compared to others in the market, designed to create a long-term, robust solution that is recommended for all diesel, petrol, LPG and natural gas engines.

From heavy-duty to passenger car engines, the product has been rigorously tested to ensure that it meets the Fleetguard benchmark and exceeds customer and industry expectations. The PG Platinum coolant also meets internationally recognised standards, such as the ATSM standards.

Speaking about the PG Platinum coolant, APAC General Manager Daniel Gallagher explained that while there are cheaper coolants in the market, the upfront lower costs typically lead to more expensive problems down the road. “The problems, ultimately, lead to more expensive repairs and downtime, which affects your business as a whole, not just your engine.”

Choosing the right coolant based on colour is also a common misconception many customers hold when choosing a suitable coolant for their engines. “Because it’s been altered so much by both marketers and OEMs in the industry, colour is no longer a reliable way to determine coolant chemistry or performance,” Gallagher explained.

“We want to strip it back down to the basics. The purpose of a coolant is to regulate the temperature of the engine. With that, it ensures optimal performance of your engine to keep you safe on the road for a long period with minimal downtime.”

In alignment with this approach, the company has worked to ensure the compatibility of the PG Platinum coolant can be used in any engine in your fleet whether it be for heavy duty engines with wet cylinder liners, light duty engines or passenger car engines. It is also compatible with any other chemical-free Extended Service and Standard Service coolant filters in the market.

On top of this, companies around the world are placing an increasing emphasis on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors, with the trend only accelerating amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the ACSI published a report in May of last year stating that, “Environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities (ESG) are no longer an emerging area of investment strategy and management,” but are instead “inextricably entwined with long-term performance outcomes.”

This is something that Fleetguard has been aware of for decades. PG Platinum, for example, is a NAPS-free coolant. The absence of nitrites, amines, phosphates or silicates minimises the environmental damage and helps further protect and maintain coolant additive levels.

“As an organisation,” explains Gallagher, “we have a responsibility to all our stakeholders. This involves everyone within the company, management, R&D, engineering, to work together to adopt a long-term, broad and integrated perspective of how our Fleetguard products impact our customers, our community and our environment.”
