Another you beaut concept truck showing us what the truck of the future looks like. It’s funny how the same ideas come around again and again, the driver is sat in the middle, sliding electric doors, electric power train and Darth Vader prime mover shape. In the real world, the same basic truck design remains constant, small components improve but the layout is a small evolution on its predecessor.
This one comes from Walmart in the US and it is known as the WAVE project. WAVE stands for Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience and has been put together with Peterbilt, Great Dane Trailers, and Capstone Turbine.
The engine is said to be a prototype advanced turbine-powered, range-extending series hybrid power train, also known as a microturbine-hybrid power train. It uses an electric motor and battery storage system. The trailer has been built, almost entirely, from carbon fibre using panels which run the length of the trailer.
