At the ATA ARTSA Technical and Maintenance Conference this week the safety message comes up over and over, to the point where we can become quite blasé about it. Then reality kicks in!
This video looks like it was filmed on a flyover ramp on Melbourne’s Western Ring Road as a trailer detaches itself from the lead trailer in a B-double set. It is difficult to work out exactly what happened here but the turntable is still in place, suggesting the kingpin was not fully locked in before the truck hit the road.
This serves as a timely reminder to us all to double check everything before heading out onto the highway. The truckie appears to have been lucky enough to have had the inevitable parting company of the trailer at a point where it was no danger to other road users. He had traffic lanes merging from both sides and managed to keep the whole thing straight.
