Paul Armstrong, apprentice with Kenworth and DAF dealer the Brown & Hurley Group, has won the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ) Apprentice of the Year award.
Paul is currently finalising his apprenticeship in Certificate 111 Automotive Mechanical Technology (Road Transport).
The award, now in its 31st year, is open to apprentices in the final stages of their training from the heavy vehicle repair, service and manufacturing sectors.
For the Brown & Hurley Group it’s been a long time between drinks as 1994 was the last time one of its apprentices won the coveted award.
High Achievement awards were also presented to Pierre Du Plessis from MTU Detroit Diesel / TORGAS and Clinton Willems from Haulmark Trailers.
On hand when Armstrong received his award was Chris Chalmers, service manager of the Brown & Hurley Group’s Darra (QLD) branch, who received the CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year perpetual trophy from Christian Wyatt, the 2011 CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year.
Chalmers was full of praise for his two apprentices who nominated for the awards. The perpetual trophy is an initiative of the CVIAQ board of directors to acknowledge the dedicated effort of employers in the training of their apprentices. It will be on display at Brown & Hurley’s Darra dealership for the next 12 months.
The prize value for the awards was in excess of $5000 with Paul Armstrong receiving an Apple IPad with accessories and tools to the combined value of $2000. The two High Achievement award winners each received tools to the value of $800.
