Brake pads in the picture

A new app from Bendix is making the life of the mechanic a little easier when trying to identify brake pads. By using their mobile phone they can find the right pad part number by simply taking a snap shot.

The Bendix Brake Pad Identifier App was developed for the brake components manufacturer by RU Advertising of Ballarat and has been recognised in the 2014 Australian Mobile and App Design Awards recently announced in Sydney at the Design Festival.

Using a mobile phone to take a photograph, then either selecting the make and model of the vehicle or entering the dimensions of the brake pad along with any other information available, the app then calculates the most likely part number of the item from the program. Detailed specifications are available for each part number including the vehicle manufacturer’s part numbers to achieve the perfect match.

“The Australian Mobile & App Design Awards are part of a Grand Slam series where Apps from UK, Asia and Australia compete. The awards cover 30 categories highlighting recognition across the App design spectrum and provide a unique opportunity to see the best start-ups,” said Ian Bott, Bendix Marketing Services Manager. “The awards are run by Design 100, the leading forum for applied design, accelerating the transformation to a design-led marketplace.”

High quality images included in the software of the app enable it to return accurate results. The new app’s program continues to be refined with feedback from users, field research and an ever expanding database.

Currently, only light trucks are included in the database but some feedback from the trucking community for an extension into the heavier end of the market should make this new app more comprehensive.
