Tony Sheldon, National Secretary of the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) has welcomed the re-election of Queensland truck driver Frank Black as the owner-driver representative
on the Australian Trucking Association’s (ATA) General Council as good news for everyone who drives a truck for a living.
“Frank Black has been a tireless advocate for owner-drivers and for all truckies across Australia. Over many years I campaigned for Safe Rates side-by-side with Frank and countless others. This culminated in the historical passage of Safe Rates legislation one year ago, which is one of the single most significant developments for the road transport industry in decades,” he claimed.
“Frank has been instrumental in demonstrating to Politicians, the wider community and now the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal the true nature of life in the cab for many truck drivers who are too often pushed to their limits to meet the rates and conditions set by the big employers in road transport – major retailers like Coles.”
“The TWU will continue to work beside Frank to improve the lives of owner-drivers and all truck drivers across Australia,” he said.
