National courier, Australia Post, is charging ahead with the rollout of 500 new Rapide 3 electric delivery vehicles.
This marks a major leap in the organisation’s push for cleaner, smarter and safer operations.
The three-wheeled Rapide 3 is built for Australian conditions and is reported to feature improved handling, greater stability and an integrated canopy for rider protection.
With a top speed of 80km/h, a range of 180km, and capacity for 150 parcels – a 400 per cent increase over the old Honda motorbikes – it is set to transform parcel delivery efficiency nationwide.
Australia Post Group CEO, Paul Graham, said the rollout reinforces the organisation’s long-term sustainability strategy.
“This is about building the Australia Post of the future,” he said.
“One that’s safer, more sustainable and ready to meet changing customer needs.”
Electric vehicles now clock more than 29 million kilometres a year across the courier’s network, supported by charging infrastructure at 37 sites around the country.
The new fleet will hit the streets ahead of the busy peak season.
In other news, Australia Post reported postal workers were injured by a third party on the road at least five times a week in the last financial year.
