Mack Trucks will launch its 50th anniversary in Australia with a stunning limited-edition photographic book, Mack Trucks – 50 Years of the Bulldog.
The 314-page coffee-table book features more than 400 real life images and documents the history of Mack Trucks in Australia.
Vice President – Mack Trucks, Dean Bestwick (pictured), says Mack Trucks has kicked off a year of celebrations starting this month.
“This book is one item that every household must have. It really goes to the heart of the traditions and values of the company,” he said.
“We wanted to showcase the Bulldog’s rich history down under so we searched the country far and wide to track down the best photos of Mack Trucks in action.
“Every Mack owner has a magical relationship with their truck and each photo in the book has its own special story to tell.”
Dean says the oldest photo in the book dated back to 1919 and most of the images were submitted by everyday Aussies.
“We worked tirelessly on the book for nearly nine months, sourcing photos and discovering the stories behind each image,” he explains.
“Once Mack is in your blood it’s there to stay and we really wanted to capture that in the book.”
Dean says the book provides an insight into the history of Mack Trucks in both America and Australia, including how the trucks became known as bulldogs.
“The first Mack Truck arrived on Australian soil in 1919 when Vacuum Oil, now Mobil Oil, ordered two AC models from America,” he explains.
“During the First World War many of the soldiers referred to the trucks as Bulldogs because they resembeled the tough, stocky animal in appearance and performance.”
The name stuck and from 1932 onwards the bulldog adorned the bonnet of each and every Mack truck.
