An Australian representative has won the Asia Pacific Volvo Asia Pacific Fuelwatch Championships 2014, held in Gothenburg, Sweden. Scott Harvey, who drives for SRH Milk Haulage, won by being the most fuel efficient driver at the championships. He, joined Houliang Liu (China) and Tsung-Chen Liu (Taiwan) in going forward to compete in the Global Final a couple of days later.
Competitors from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Thailand were involved in the Asian final. These were picked as the best out of 5,800 participants from 12 countries in the Asia Pacific region who had entered national competitions in 2014.
14 drivers competed in two categories, driving a Volvo FH 6×2 on the highway, and the Volvo FMX 8×4 off-road. Scott Harvey was the winner in the on road section and Myeongseong Kim from South Korea in the off road competition.
”I am very excited. It’s a great thing to win,” said Scott Harvey after his victory. “And it should be a great motivation for everyone. Back home, I run a business with 120 drivers. If only ten of them show such improvements in terms of fuel efficiency, it means immense savings! It’s really great if you have such a focus.”
Scott Harvey ended up consuming up to 14 percent less fuel than his competitors, demonstrating the wide margin between drivers in day-to-day operations.
Scott was unable to match his performance in the Global competition a few days later. The title was taken by Christian Scheiflinger from Austria, named ‘World’s most fuel efficient driver’ in the world final of the Volvo Fuel Challenge.
