Two leaders of the Australian trucking industry, Geoff Crouch and Tim Knowles, were elected to the board of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) at its annual general meeting this week.
The ATA is the peak body that represents the trucking industry throughout Australia. Its members include state and sector trucking associations, major logistics companies and businesses with leading expertise in truck technology.
Geoff Crouch is the Managing Director of Ron Crouch Transport, a family owned business based in Wagga Wagga. It has more than 750 customers and a company fleet of 30 trucks and 47 trailers. The company is a member of the ATA’sTruckSafe safety accreditation program.
Mr Crouch is also the president of NatRoad.
Mr Crouch said he looked forward to making a contribution as an ATA director.
“While the ATA has successfully achieved many reforms in the trucking industry in recent years, it is vital it continues to lobby as a united and strong voice to overcome the industry’s future challenges,” he said.
Tim Knowles is the Operations Manager of Speedie Contractors in Brisbane, after working there as a driver from 1975 to 1992. Speedie Contractors operates 32 rigid trucks and prime movers in the road surfacing sector of the industry. He has been a board member of the Queensland Trucking Association for the last fifteen years.
Mr Knowles said his focus as an ATA board member would be on making sure the organisation had the systems and resources to effectively represent the interests of medium sized trucking businesses.
“As an industry representative, my particular interests are registration charges and vehicle standards, and especially electronic braking systems,” Mr Knowles said.
Also at the meeting, Kathy Williams was re-elected unopposed as the ATA’s Secretary/Treasurer. ATA Chairman David Simon was re-elected to the board unopposed, as were Doug McMillan and Noelene Watson.
