Apprentice of the Year Award announced

The CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Award has been won for 2014 by Fraser Hemming from Haulmark Trailers Australia. Fraser, who is due to be signed off for a Certificate lll Automotive Manufacturing Technical Operations (Bus, Truck & Trailer), was presented with a trophy, a framed Award certificate, an Apple iPad and tools to the combined value of approximately $1,600.

The award is an annual event open to apprentices in the final stages of their training from the heavy vehicle repair, service and manufacturing sectors.

 

More excellence among apprentices was awarded on the night, with Joshua Brumm from MTU Detroit Diesel/TORGAS, picking up the High Achievement Award.

 

The awards evening was also an opportunity to present the CVIAQ Industry Recognition Award to Graham Mannion from SkillsTech Australia for his contribution, over many years, to industry training.

 

The presentation was made by Brett Wright, CVIAQ CEO, in front of over 170 members and guests during the CVIAQ Awards Night. The award provides recognition for excellence in performance or outstanding achievement resulting in a significant contribution to the commercial vehicle industry.

 

Commencing his career as a teacher/trainer in 1987, Graham was instrumental in the development and introduction of the AUM Automotive Manufacture (Bus, Truck & Trailer) training package to Queensland resulting in a significant increase of students undertaking training in the trailer and body building sector of the industry.

 

Graham has worked very closely with Auto Skills Australia in the further development of the Bus, Truck & Trailer training package and has provided regular feedback with the technical information being embedded into the current units of competency and qualification structure.

 

He continues to establish strong working relationships with all the employers throughout Queensland who have apprentices undertaking the Bus, Truck and Trailer training package. He has earned industry’s respect and trust that a quality training program is being delivered.
