9/11: After the Impact

David Collenette, chairman of CILTNA

Mack Trucks Australia has partnered with the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Australia (CILTA) to present a personal insight into some of the ramifications of 9/11 on the day and the subsequent effect this tragedy has had on global security.

Guest speaker at the series of events will be the Hon. David Collenette, chairman of
the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport North America (CILTNA), who was Canada’s federal transport minister at the time of the 9/11 attacks.

Shortly after the fateful day’s events began to unfold, the United States closed its airspace and more than 500 aeroplanes, most over the Atlantic Ocean en route to the US, had to be diverted. Some returned to Europe, but others, past the point of no return, were diverted to Canada.

Collenette and his colleagues were faced with the immediate need to land 226 wide body jets carrying 33,000 passengers. How they achieved this seemingly impossible feat is an incredible true story.

The tour starts on Monday, September 10 in Melbourne and will continue on to Canberra, Brisbane and Sydney.

“We are thrilled to have David as our guest speaker at our event series, and it is very fitting that Mack Trucks has come on board as our event partner, for what I’m sure will be a very successful speaking tour,” said Andrew Stewart, chairman of CILTA.

Tickets to the various events can be booked online at www.cilta.com.au/Events.
